“RED ❤️ shaking - convulsing - sharp - violent - hitting things - YELLOW 💛 neurons electrodes misfiring - see stuff zapping around in mind - it’s got no place to go - wiring is all f***ed up and not matching up - PURPLE 💜 uncomfortable - not nice - not knowing - always underlying”

I’m so proud of this client! We have learnt so much together and on this day he finally accepted an invitation to step away from his usual black marker and instead try to paint! Coloured paint even! And he used his fingers!!!
😍🎨😍

This artwork is expressing the latest seizure he experienced. We looked at some other epileptic artworks online and read some science journals after the painting and noted the following fascinating similarities in their art, as noted in the article ref below.

 - electrical imagery (noted also the colour yellow commonly used for this)
 - visual representation of post seizure ictal stage (roundish image bottom right of painting)
 - repetitive use of lines
 - themes of resilience, awareness, hope

Finding these similarities brought my client a sense of belonging, validation and acceptance for his own epilepsy. Incredible stuff 🥰
