Be a Purple Hero for Henry!

Tuesday 18th Mar

Our journey with epilepsy started for our family in August 2023 when we noticed Henry having moments where he seemed to be not listening, day dreaming. But as time went on and we noticed more of these so we went to the doctor to see if our suspicions were correct! It was confirmed then Henry had absence epilepsy and was having upwards of 10 to 15 of these seizures a day.

He started on some anti seizure medication which reduced the number but didn’t stop them all together. Over the course of 2024 he trialed a few different medications until we found a combination of two medications that seemed to bring them to a stop.

Or so we thought; on 14th January 2025 Henry had his first Tonic clonic seizure (or grand mal seizure) while in the car with me and grace while travelling to work.

Honestly this was the scariest moment of our lives! Henry, Grace and myself were in the car on my way to work just like any other day. One minute he was picking songs then next our whole world felt like it turned upside-down In the seat next to me.

After a scary 3 minutes of panicking, calling ambulance and finding somewhere to pull over his seizure stopped and we got him to hospital! This was scary for me and grace but poor Henry has no memory of anything at all.

Since then he has had 12 more seizure that can happen any day or anytime, he has had even more medications added to his daily schedule ( 8 tablets a day). However we may never know why Henry has  epilepsy but we are getting better at helping him manage it!

March is Epilepsy awareness month and my hope is to make people in our lives more aware of what to do and how to help someone like Henry with epilepsy!

Help us raise awareness about all aspects of epilepsy and it effects and raise for more research in how to help the people living with it.

Donate today and on March 26th Luke and I will complete the Purple Muck challenge! Helps us reach our target and watch on as we get all purple and mucky in the name of epilepsy!

As I only know this from Henry's perspective, also having had grand mal seizures when younger, I am aware how frightening it was for those who witnessed it. I have been seizure free, although still on medication, so I hope this can encourage you that Henry can live a normal life with very few restraints, which I sincerely hope he does.

Hi Lana and Luke , we also have been affected by epilepsy. Christopher’s Daughter Pippa had many seizures. She never medicated but atm seems to have grown out of it. There are so many different types of epilepsy. I hope your journey isn’t too hard.
